Exploring Shame through Expressive & Creative Writing
About the event
Shame, that sneaky gremlin lurking in the shadows of our minds, thrives on secrecy and silence.
It is a powerful and complex emotion characterised by a deep sense of inadequacy, unworthiness and embarrassment. It often arises from a belief that we have failed to meet social or personal expectations, leading to feelings of humiliation, guilt, or self-disgust. Unlike guilt, shame focuses on the self rather than specific actions, and it often perpetuates a vicious cycle of self-criticism and isolation.
If you are suffering in a silent prison of shame, this creative writing workshop is for you. Only by by acknowledging and confronting our shame with compassion and vulnerability can we begin to heal.
Working with our seasoned facilitator Janet Anjorin-Browne, the workshop will be conducted in two parts: expressive and creative.
- In the first part we will explore the psychology of putting our shame into words through practical writing exercises.
- In the second part we will explore the use of creative writing techniques such as poetry to craft our own narratives around shame.
But most of all, this is a safe space to reclaim our inherent worthiness and embrace the beauty of our imperfect, wonderfully human selves.
