Mind Over Machine: How to Reclaim the Power of Your Attention

About the event
In collaboration with The College of Modern Anxiety
It’s 2025 and the machines have taken over, social media clamours for our attention and workplace surveillance bots punish us if our minds wander. Now a new generation of robots promises to do our thinking for us (while simultaneously stealing our jobs and guzzling all the water in Oxfordshire!).
Join philosopher Dr. Noah Gabriel as we collaboratively reimagine new ways to take back our minds and our world.
We will explore…
- Why distraction is so appealing
- The value of attention
- Thinking as the basis for a life worth living
- Why there is so much more to our mental capacity than mere intelligence
We’ll also use games and mini-experiments to understand what place we want to give the machines in our life, and how we can keep them from taking over.
